Dad is an only child like me and the closes to a brother he has had is my Tito Paquito. Tito Paquito and his wife Tita Edna had been living in Illinois for the past 37 years. They had been back here for a visit only once in the past though briefly. It's only their second visit but they stayed only for a week to attend a high school homecoming of my uncle and visit some relatives.

Dad was so touched when he fetched them because the first thing they wanted to do was visit mom. Since it was late when they met, we just had dinner at Manila Peninsula lobby. The following day I accompanied them to the Greenhills tiangge which they have never seen.

I remembered accompanying them to honkong during their last visit here and I told them that its as if they visited not only the shops of honkong but bankok and korea as well with all the good quality fake branded bags and stuff.

We practically spent the whole day in that area. Tita Edna bought so much in the first shop or stall she visited. I went around to buy some slacks but when I went back to get them they were still in that same shop! I told them that there must be 3000 other stalls in the vicinity :)

We left the place early evening since Tita Edna had to buy a terno which took more than an hour to have adjusted.

For dinner, dad and I took them to our old reliable Italiannis in greenbelt.

Alleluia they finally replaced my notebook!

Had not been able to post much the past week though had been meaning to. Been busy on so many stuff one of which was the transfer of precious data to my newly replaced notebook. Alleluia, yes sometime end of last week they finally replaced my notebook! I requested HP to send the new unit via Electroworld so I can request them to transfer all my data to the new unit. Despite the transfer I had to manually check various files since I noticed some were missed. Data from other programs such as skype couldnt just be moved so I had to copy each contact detail before I could return the notebook. The shop didnt actually want me to bring home the old unit but I requested HP to call them so I could check data over the weekend before I can return it. Also, I decided to purchase an external hard drive so that some impt data could be stored in just one place instead of the various other media such as my old reliable zip drive or CD. So hard to keep looking at various media when looking for old info. Let's see how this new notebook performs.

My Notebook Saga continues.....

Yes it does and I still can't use it without a plug. I was not able to bring it to the shop to be exchanged for the service unit. I needed it badly due to the event last friday where I had to send and receive various emails among other tasks.

I also realized that even if they backed up all my files to be transferred to the service unit, I would need to download and install so many programs which will take me ages. I just cant send this unit for diagnosis for at least three days.

I wrote the President who had been a long time client in the bank and narrated my sad tale. He ordered everyone concerned to check it out a-s-a-p.

I just waited and watched them answer each others emails. They were all 'orders' to expedite, whatever that means.

Friday morning, I received two calls from HP, one saying they will try to rush the unit diagnosis, another saying they will replace my battery with an extended one. I told them, gosh even if they replace with an extended battery I don't think it will work. Problem seems to be internal. I may not be a technician but for me its kinda obvious!

During last friday's presscon, I told some friends in the press of my frustration with the unit and it bothered me when they mentioned that upgrading the bios would make the unit more unstable!

After the presscon, when I was on the way to Edsa Shang to visit the e-services event (my friend Edna convinced me to visit with her), I received a call from Compaq service center saying they decided to replace my unit with a brand new one. Alleluia!

I decided to check my mails via my phone and I read an email from HP president saying they better cut the bureaucracy and just replace my unit! ha ha....

Now, it remains to be seen whether this will happen. Watch for the next epsiode :)

Cebu ICT2005 Metro Manila Launch

The evening after the presscon, we had the formal launch of the Cebu ICT2005 event at the Dusit Hotel in Makati City.

There was a contract signing between the Cebu organizers and the various Impelementing partners mainly composed of IT and business organizations.

Special guests were Sec. Ver Pena, Her Excellency the Ambassador of India with her team, and other govt officials.
